ANDREW BALMFORTH ~ Fight Director ~ HOME PAGE
Based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, Andrew is a L.A.M.D.A trained Equity registered Actor who graduated in 1996 and worked extensively as an Actor before doing his apprenticeship with Jonathan Waller and returned to L.A.M.D.A as a teacher of Stage Combat in 1999-2001 (Teaching credits: LAMDA, Drama Studio, Guild Hall.)
In 2002 he joined the renowned team of Interpreters at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds where his duties included, Fight displays from the Roman Gladiator to the 18th Century Duellist, Armoured Combat, Jousting and other martial skills generally bringing the collection to life to the visitor. As well as this Andrew was one of the resident fight directors choreographing the fight displays for the Museum and training the new Interpretation staff to a very high standard in many disciplines of Stage/Historical Fight. Because of his extensive experience using arms and armour his Fight Direction offers a unique Historical approach where every detail of the weapon and techniques of the period are considered.
In the 9 years he was at the Museum he often worked outside as a Fight Director for local schools and youth theatre as well as representing the UK teaching at the internationally acclaimed Paddy Crean-IOSP 2007/08.
